Split is ready for the FISU World University Sailing Championship

News 23 September 2026

In just a few days, Split becomes host of the FISU World University Sailing Championship – another step in the city’s preparations for the European Universities Games 2028. The championship will bring together 150 participants from 15 countries and 40 universities around the world, with the official opening ceremony taking place on 27 September at the Diocletian’s Cellars.

Following the opening ceremony, five days of racing will take place in the waters off Split, from 28 September to 2 October, culminating in the medal ceremony and the championship’s closing ceremony.

On the start line will be students from Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Hungary, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Poland and Norway, while Croatia will be represented by a four-member crew with extensive competitive experience across various sailing classes.

The return of a FISU World Championship to Split, following the World University Cheerleading Championship in 2024, is also significant for the city’s long-term development as a host of major sporting events. The sailing championship is part of a broader campaign through which Split is preparing to host the European Universities Games in 2028, when the city will welcome thousands of student-athletes from across Europe.
